History
A vision came true…………….,
Almost eight decades ago, one fine afternoon around 2 o’clock on the twenty eight day of the month of March in the year of Our Lord, 1922, a few servants of God, namely: Rev. E .M. Rug (Methodist), Rev. Alexander McLeish (Presbyterian) with a group, gathered together in prayer and it was the first ever meeting held to proceed further and hold CHRISTIAN CONVENTION.
The then members for the Founder Committee were as follows: Rev. D C Wilkes, the Chairman (a Scottish Missionary from Beawar), Rev. H R Walter, Secretary (member Methodist Church, Indus river Conference), other then the two key figures the following constituted the committee: Rev. George Kareemulla, Rev. D C Wilkes, Rev. E M Rug , Rev. H R Walter, Rev Sawairam, Rev. Chhatarbhuj, Rev. Laxmichand, Rev. L S Joseph, Rev. G Daloo, Rev. Alexander Maklesh, Rev. Chhaganlal, Rev. J W Rumsiman, Rev A R Law, Rev. Alfred Luke, Rev. Arjun Singh, Rev. Hanifulla, Dr. Deenanath Sharman, Mr. S O Nath, Mr. E I James, Dr. Chelmarch, Mr. W B Paul, Miss N Lawson, Miss Attikans, Miss Littogan, Miss Rumsiman, Dr. Loften and Mr. Lazarus Phillip.
The inception of Convention was during the holidays of an Indian festival Holi, the season marked after the Harvest mainly for the Christian farmers of the near by villages like Piploda, Ashapura, Balakpura etc. to be free from their routine work.
Ajmer, a small town of that time in Rajasthan, the highly populated place of Christian Community was chosen to be the center place to hold Convention and the proper venue was the Husband Memorial School, which remains still the same for Conventions.
In the same year, 1922 on the fifteenth day of the month of April, it was decided to make a meaningful Praise and Worship during Convention, a Hymnal to be printed and published. Rev. H R Walter coordinated the work. This was all possible only because of prayers and prayers offered by believers.
Year after year, it continued by the grace of God and Convention celebrated its Silver, Golden and Platinum Jubilee. And today it made a remarkable and commendable History of Rajasthan Christian Convention, an assembly of believers with a lot of zeal and untarnished faith in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ. AMEN.
There were no funds no resources but the Convention was held every year. Full of zeal and enthusiasm people volunteered in organizing it successfully. In Pre-Independence era it was called Rajputana Convention but after independence, it was named Rajasthan Christian Convention.
Silver Bells for Rajasthan Christian Convention chimed in 1946, and in the continued Praise and Worship, the offering collected was a large amount. The amount was utilized to construct a cottage of double bedded for Madar T B Sanatorium. This memorial of Silver Jubilee stands till date as reminiscences.
The year 1971 brought peals of Golden Bells. Celebration of Golden Jubilee was marked by a huge procession on road by believers. The main speakers were Late Abdul Haqq and Dr. Akbar Abdul Haqq. The occasion was marked special by the presence of three Bishops: Rt. Rev A J Shah, Rt. Rev. Eric Nasir, Rt. Rev. I P Andrews.
Organist – Miss I. Glass DCS (Missionary from Church of Scotland). Choir Convener— Rev. Ewing Smith (Missionary from Church of Scotland) were also present and later after leaving India they sent their prayer support from their native place (till they were alive) through correspondence to the Secretary Mr. Ambrose Baptist.
In thousands, believers gathered together and the number increased every year, the Faith grew stronger. The Managing Committee made arrangements apt to the changes of time and advancement.
Blessed are those, who see good times in the years of our Lord. There are a few believers who could witness Golden Jubilee and lived long to attend Platinum Jubilee.
1996 banged loud and preparations for Platinum Jubilee started, along with Morning Evening Discourses the Platinum Jubilee Convention marked the year a special one. Believers walked on street as a procession in praise and worship. The main speakers were: Dr. Akbar Haqq (Associate Evangelist – Billy Graham Evangelistic Association) Dr. Don Stanton, Director Maranatha Revival Crusade. Rev. Marvin P. Singh, Pastor Methodist Church, New Delhi.
The arrangements of a Photo Gallery flashed all the reminiscences of past 75 years’ Conventions. It was indeed a review in brief for the younger generation.
Other then the usual arrangements, the Food and Lodging arrangement was also made for those who were from outside Ajmer. Since then every year a large number of outsiders could attend these conventions and the trend of arranging for Food and Lodging is continued till date.
Time went on and these Spiritual Discourses in the form of Rajasthan Christian Convention could be beneficial for many believers who assembled yearly to revive their faith.
Every thing is possible by prayers and so Prayer Cells was always a unique feature of these Conventions where believers sat for hours together to pray for these Conventions to be held successfully and to spread the Word of God.
